Because bichectomy is preferred by Hollywood celebrities most today, it is also called as the Hollywood Cheek. Thin and sharp facial lines provide a stronger expression to the actors in particular.Bichectomy is applied to people with a high amount of fat in their cheeks who do not have prominent facial contours, whose face look fat, to patients who have thick and square facial features. Although the highest demand for this procedure comes from women, it's also applied to male patient. Since the bone and fat structure of male patients is different, less fat is extracted when the procedure is performed on men.

Bichectomy Procedure

Bichectomy is an aesthetic facial procedure which consists of Bichat’s adipose bag remover, which is located in two fat compartments inside the cheeks. Do not worry, Bichat bags are not essential for the body and your main one is for the first years of life chewing and sucking for babies.

The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia. Almost 40% of the fat tissue is removed through a small incision opened inside the mouth. The procedure lasts about thirty minutes, the incision scar is inside the mouth; therefore there is not any disturbing appearance aesthetically. Partial pain and swelling may appear after the procedure. The patient may return home in the same day. The recovery process is directly proportional with achieving the oral hygiene. Mouthwash and tooth brushing may be done carefully during this period. The sutures inside the cheek will disappear within several days. The treatment result clearly appears within 3 to 4 weeks.

After Bichectomy

Oral hygiene and oral care should be performed after bichectomy; mouthwash may be done and teeth may be brushed regularly. This is extremely important to prevent infections on the sutures on the mouth. Since the sutures are absorbable, they are not required to be removed. Furthermore, eating solid foods should be avoided in the first day. Liquid foods should be consumed.

The procedure result may be observed completely after 15 days to 1 month. After recovery period, you may continue on your daily life with a fresh, aesthetic and younger facial expression.

Remember every surgical procedure will have complications if you do not follow the doctor’s indications. Bichectomy is usually a risk-free, short-term, simple procedure with satisfactory results. Its complication risk is very low. As with any operation, it is very important that the surgeon is highly experienced on the anatomy of the region. If the surgeon fails to enter from the correct point, s/he may cause damage, such as tissue trauma, bleeding, while trying to find bichat fat pad.
