Facial expressions form lines in the skin over time; repeated movements make these lines permanent. Botox is applied by controlled weakening of the muscle movements to prevent these dynamic lines from setting. The aim is to reduce surface wrinkling without leaving the person expressionless.
01How Is It Applied?
Before the procedure, the needle-entry pain is reduced with numbing cream. After about 20 minutes the skin is disinfected and appropriate doses are applied to the target muscles. The effect begins within 7-10 days. Vitamin E and blood thinners should be avoided beforehand. Afterwards, mimics should not be made for a few hours, heavy exercise should be avoided for 24-48 hours, one should not lie face down the same day; on the first day hot baths and massage should be avoided. Undesirable effects are corrected at the check-up on the 10th-14th day.
02For Whom Is It Not Applied?
It is not recommended for those with a neuromuscular disease or a bleeding problem, those with a skin disease in the application area, pregnant and breastfeeding women, and those allergic to ingredients such as albumin.
03Face Slimming – Teeth-Grinding (Masseter) Botox
Botox, besides wrinkles, also eliminates the teeth-clenching/grinding problem. This condition, usually done unconsciously under stress or during sleep, leads to morning jaw pain, tooth-enamel wear and enlargement of the masseter muscle; this can make the cheeks prominent and turn a triangular chin into a square, hard appearance. Masseter botox softens this appearance by weakening the muscle. The procedure takes about 10 minutes, its effect is seen within a month and it is permanent for 6-12 months.
04Sweating (Hyperhidrosis) Botox
Excessive sweating affects about one-third of people and can lead to serious loss of self-confidence. Botox prevents sweating by temporarily disabling the sweat glands; it is most applied to the underarms, palms and soles of the feet. It is usually a single-session, painless procedure of about 15 minutes and its effect begins within a week. Its permanence is on average 6-8 months.
05Botox in Migraine Treatment
Migraine, with usually one-sided, throbbing headache and light-sound sensitivity, makes social and work life difficult. Botox prevents inflammatory pain by blocking transmission at the nerve endings, and its effectiveness increases with repeated applications. If there is no other neurological cause, it is applied to the forehead, temple, neck and nape every 3-4 months; it is not a definitive treatment but a soothing preventive method. It is an approved application for chronic migraine.
